EAEA hosts the Taiwan Trade Mission, 7th September, 2023, Kampala Serena Hotel

On September 7, 2023- At the Taiwan Trade Mission to Uganda, Business to Business (B2B) event, at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda, was an eagerly anticipated delegation of Taiwan manufacturers to Uganda. This event, was organized in collaboration between Taiwan External Trade Development (TAITRA) and the East Africa Entrepreneurs Association (EAEA), promised to open new avenues for business collaborations and partnerships.

The Taiwan Trade Mission B2B at Serena commenced with a short prayer led by Mr. Henry Muyomba. The Master of Ceremony (MC) of the day was Mr. Tony Wamala. The event featured two keynote speakers:

Ching Jung Lo

Director, Economic Division, Taipei Liaison Office in South Africa

Lo, representing TAITRA, delved into the opportunities available in Taiwan. He highlighted South Africa’s historical role as Taiwan’s major trade partner in Africa and spoke of the expansion of Taiwan’s presence across the African continent. Dr. Lo acknowledged Africa’s status as a rapidly growing continent and the presence of free trade agreements, making business transactions on the continent seamless. He specifically noted the high business potential in the East African region and emphasized Taiwan’s eagerness to collaborate with Ugandan businesses and promote free trade.

The Chairman, East Africa Entrepreneurs Association.

In his keynote speech, Mr. Okumu provided an overview of EAEA’s mission, highlighting its focus on trade facilitation with partners in Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Sudan. He emphasized the significance of trade facilitation, especially in light of Uganda’s signing of the Trade Facilitation Agreement under the World Trade Organization (WTO). Mr. Okumu underscored the trade opportunities within Uganda and the East African Community, expressing eagerness for products coming from Taiwan and the prospect of exporting Ugandan agricultural products to Taiwan.
