Bilateral Meeting With H.E The Ambassador Of The Republic Of Congo, Held On November 16, 2018, Kampala, Uganda

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) organized a bilateral meeting among the East Africa Entrepreneurs Association (EAEA) members, private sector and different government agencies to meet H.E Guy Nestor Itoua, ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Congo to Uganda at MoFA Crane boardroom on November 16, 2018.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss and revive bilateral trade and Investment between Uganda and Congo.

In his presentation, H.E the ambassador H.E Guy Nestor Itoua elaborated on the available investment opportunities, government incentives and priority sectors to venture with Congo. The ambassador highlighted the key sectors which included Mining & mineral resources, Energy, Agriculture and agribusiness specially the beef, Cassava, Fish, banana and maize production, processing and value addition sub-sectors.

The session was interactive and involved question and answer between the participants and the ambassador.

Way Forward / Deliberations;

The meeting made the following recommendations;

  1. There is a need to start negotiations of a bilateral agreement on how to do business between the two countries, including service agreements among the respective MDA especially agriculture.
  2. The two countries need to sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen trade and investment on a win-win situation.
  3. MoFA and other MDA need to come up with frameworks on how to do business in both countries.
  4. The meeting agreed to organize a business forum and learning trip to Congo to discover more and interact with the private sector. The date of the business forum will be communicated in the due course.
