Kenya lifts ban on poultry from Uganda

The Kenyan government will lift a ban it imposed on poultry from Uganda, after it has been put in place 25 months ago, due to an outbreak of avian influenza in the country.

The move, which follows an assessment that ascertained that the neighboring country was free of avian influenza disease, will let Ugandan poultry farmers to have access to the Kenya’s Ksh500 million ($5 million) market.

The two governments have agreed to finish the formalities for lifting the ban at the earliest.

Cases of the Highly Pathologic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Uganda came to notice when those were reported in wild ducks and birds at a beach on the shores of Lake Victoria near Entebbe in Masaka and Wakiso districts, Uganda in January 2017.
